# Your subscribers

Make lists, add people, see who is on a list, make segments, stop emails to one address, and let visitors sign up.

**Add-on**
Lookout Send is an add-on, so not every website has it. If it is not in
your menu, see [Add-ons](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/billing/add-ons/) to add it.

Everything on this page happens on the **Subscribers** tab of Lookout Send.
To make your first list, see
[Getting started with Lookout Send](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/lookout-send/overview/#before-your-first-campaign).
To send to your list, see [Sending a campaign](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/lookout-send/campaigns/).

The tab has four boxes: **Audience lists**, **Segments**,
**Find a subscriber** and **Import subscribers**.

## Your lists

The **Audience lists** box lists every list, with how many **Members** it
has, its **Status**, and whether **Public signup** is on.

The buttons on each row:

- **Enable signup** or **Disable signup**. See
  [Letting visitors sign up](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/lookout-send/subscribers/#letting-visitors-sign-up).
- **Rename** changes its name.
- **Archive** puts it away. **Restore** brings it back.

### Seeing who is on a list

Click a list's name. A box opens, headed **Members of** and the list's name.
It shows each person's **Email**, **Name** and **Status**.

The status list at the top filters it: **All statuses**, **Subscribed**,
**Unsubscribed** or **Suppressed**. **Load more** shows the next 200.

Click an email to open that person in **Find a subscriber**. **Close** shuts
the box.

## Adding people

**Warning**
Only add people who asked for your emails. Sending to people who did not ask
is against the law in many places, and it gets your emails marked as spam.

### One at a time

In the **Find a subscriber** box, under **Add or update**:

1. Type the **Email**. **First name** and **Last name** are optional.
2. Under **Lists**, check each list they should join. You must check at least
   one.
3. Leave **Membership status** on **Subscribed**.
4. Click **Add or update subscriber**.

You see "Subscriber saved." and an ID. Forgot to check a list? You see
"Choose at least one list."

To change someone already on file, look them up first. See
[Looking someone up](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/lookout-send/subscribers/#looking-someone-up).

### From a spreadsheet

Save your spreadsheet as a CSV file first. Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets
can all do this.

1. In the **Import subscribers** box, click **CSV file** and choose the file.
2. In **Email column**, type the heading of the column that holds the email
addresses, exactly as it is in the file.
3. Do the same for **First-name column** and **Last-name column**, if you
   have them.
4. Click **Stage import**. You see the file name, the number of rows, and the
   first few rows.
5. Pick the **Target list**.
6. Click **Run import**.

It works through the file in batches. When it finishes, you see how many were
imported, skipped and failed. Click **View report** to see what happened to
each row.

**Cancel** stops an import part way through.

## Segments

A segment is part of a list. Use it to send to a smaller group.

1. In the **Segments** box, type a **Segment name**.
2. Pick the **List** it comes from.
3. Pick a **Membership status**: **Subscribed** or **Unsubscribed**.
4. Click **Create segment**.

Click its name, or **View members**, to see who is in it. **Rename** changes
its name. **Archive** puts it away, and **Restore** brings it back.

## Looking someone up

In the **Find a subscriber** box, paste their **Subscriber ID** and click
**Look up**. You get the ID when you add someone. You can also click their
email in a list's members.

You see their email, their status, and the lists they are on.

- **Suppress** stops every email to that address, from every list. It does
  not ask first.
- **Unsuppress** lets emails go to them again.
- **View consent** shows when and how they agreed to your emails.

## Letting visitors sign up

A list needs public signup turned on before visitors can join it from your
website.

1. In the **Audience lists** box, click **Enable signup** on the list.
2. A box asks for a **Consent policy version**. Keep the value it suggests and
   click **OK**.
3. A second box asks **Require email confirmation before subscribing?** Click
**OK** to send new people a confirmation email first. Click **Cancel** to
   add them right away.

The list now reads **Signup on**. A **Signup key** shows on its row, with a
button to copy it.

Then go to [Newsletter](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/plugins/newsletter/), pick **Lookout Send** as the
provider, and paste the key there. That puts the signup form on your website.

A visitor who picks more than one list on the form gets one confirmation
email for all of them.

The confirmation and unsubscribe links in your emails open pages on your own
website, in your website's own style.

**Disable signup** stops new signups to that list.
