# Step 6: Navigation

One quick job: the links people use to get around your website. Every one of
them should open a real page of yours.

:::note[Important]
Menu changes go live the second you make them. There is no **Save** and no
**Publish** on those screens, which is unlike the rest of the panel.

Read [Menus](/manage/menus/) before you start.
:::

## The checklist

### 1. Click every link on your own website

Open your live site and click each link across the top, then each one in the
footer. You are looking for a link that lands on a "page not found" screen.

Three of them will. The **Company** column in your footer arrives with links
named About, Blog and Careers, and your website has no such pages.

### 2. Take out the links that go nowhere

:::caution[Warning]
The trash icon on the **Menus** list screen is a different thing. That one deletes the
whole menu and every link in it, and your visitors see the result at once.

Delete **Primary Navigation** and the top of your website has no links left.
Nothing on that screen puts it back. Work inside a menu with **Edit**, and leave
the list screen's trash icons alone.
:::

Go to **Manage**, then **Menus**, and click **Edit** on **Footer: Company**.
Click the trash icon on each row that goes nowhere.

Do the same for any other dead link you found. [Menus](/manage/menus/) has the
steps.

### 3. Put the links in the order people need

Top of the list is the leftmost link on your website. Put the things people came
for first: Services, then Contact.

Use the up and down arrows on each row. There is nothing to drag.

### 4. Add a link to your food menu

Skip this unless your site has a food menu.

Your menu page sits at `/menu`, and nothing links to it out of the box. In
**Primary Navigation**, click **Add Custom Link**, label it `Menu`, and type
`/menu` as the address.

:::caution[Warning]
The **Edit** box for a link has a **Parent** setting. Leave it on **No parent
(top level)**.

Give a link a parent and it vanishes from your website. It still shows on this
screen, indented, so nothing looks wrong in the panel.

If a link is missing from your site but listed here, that is the first thing to
check.
:::

Looking for your colors? That is its own step:
[Step 3: Choose your colors](/setup/choose-your-colors/).

## What done looks like

Open your live website and click every link in the header and the footer. Every
one opens a real page of yours. None of them opens a "page not found" screen.

Next: [Step 6: Test your inquiry form](/setup/inquiries/).
