# Your website's style

The ten styles a Lookout Ridge IT website can wear, and where you change yours.

A style is the shape of your website: what the top of every page holds, how
the menu looks, and what the bottom of the page carries.

There are ten. Your website wears one at a time. An Admin user can switch to
another on the **Appearance** page, under **Plugins**, then **Site Layout**.
[Appearance](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/plugins/appearance/) has the steps, and a way to try a style
before anyone else sees it.

## The ten styles

| Style | Made for |
| --- | --- |
| **Marketing** | Service businesses that sell with a call to action |
| **Portfolio** | Builders, designers and makers who sell with their past work |
| **Blog** | Sites that post articles, news or guides often |
| **Classic** | Family service businesses, such as heating, lawn care and cleaning |
| **Trades** | Roofers, plumbers, electricians and contractors |
| **Bistro** | Restaurants, cafes, bakeries and breweries |
| **Boutique** | Gift shops, clothing stores, florists and bike shops |
| **Practice** | Clinics, dentists, lawyers, accountants and vets |
| **Community** | Nonprofits, churches, clubs and schools |
| **Garage** | Auto repair, detailing and tire shops |

The **Appearance** page shows a card for each style you can pick, with a short
note on what it is for. Not every website can pick all ten. If a style is
missing from your page, [ask us](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/help/getting-support/).

## What a style changes

A style changes the header, the menu row and the footer, all at once. Your
words, photos, pages and menus stay just as they are.

Some things work in every style:

- The thin strip above the header, called the [Utility
  Bar](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/plugins/utility-bar/).
- The colored buttons in the header. They come from the [header
  button](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/plugins/header-button/) settings.
- Your colors, light or dark, and your fonts. Those are their own choices on
the same **Appearance** page, and any of them goes with any style.

Most styles keep the header on screen as you read down the page. Portfolio
lets it scroll away. A **Sticky header** switch on the **Appearance** page
changes that for any style.

## Which style do I have?

Go to **Plugins**, then **Site Layout**, then **Appearance**. The card that is
picked is your style.

If nobody has picked one yet, the heading says **Using the host default**,
then the name of the style we set up for you.

Only an Admin user can open that page. Anyone else sees a line that says only
administrators can change the site's appearance. Ask your Admin, or ask us.

## Style and add-ons are different things

Your style is the shape. An add-on is a feature.

They do not decide each other. A Trades site can run the blog add-on and have
[Posts](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/content/posts/). A Blog style site can run the shop. Portfolio is a
common home for [Projects](https://docs.lookoutridgeit.com/content/projects/), but any style can have them.

So the name of your style tells you nothing about which add-ons you have.
Look in your own menu for that.
