Content Types
The kinds of content your site stores, and where comments are turned on.
You will rarely need this page. The one job here that is yours is turning on comments for your blog posts or projects.
A content type is one kind of entry: a service, a review, a page. This screen is the list of the kinds your website holds.
Think of each one as a blank form. The content type decides which boxes you see when you open an entry, and what each box is called.
We built this list when we built your website, and it matches what your site can show. Go to Admin, then Content Types, and you can read it. Only an Admin user can open it.
Warning
A change here hits every entry of that kind at once.
Take a box off a content type and what you typed in it goes from all of them. Rename a box and your website may stop finding it, so that detail drops off your pages. Typing the old name back does not bring the words back.
The trash icon on a row deletes that whole content type, and every entry in it.
Your visitors see the result right away.
Turning on comments
Comments let visitors write a reply under a blog post or a project. They are off until you turn them on. You turn them on for each kind on its own: Posts, Projects, or both.
Comments only show on blog posts and projects. Turning them on for any other kind does nothing a visitor can see.
Important
A comment keeps the name and email address the visitor types. Your privacy policy should say so. Tell us before you turn comments on, and we will check it.
- Go to Admin, then Content Types.
- Click Posts, or Projects.
- Find the Comments box, below Features.
- Switch on Enable comments.
- Pick a Moderation choice. The table below says what each one does.
- Set Close comments after (days). After that many days, an entry takes no
new comments. Type
0to keep them open for good. - Click Save, under the Comments box.
The comment form shows on your live website right away.
| Moderation | What it does |
|---|---|
| All comments require approval | Nothing shows until you approve it. The safest choice. |
| First-time commenters only | A person’s first comment waits for you. After you approve one, their next ones go straight up. |
| No moderation (auto-approve all) | Every comment shows at once, spam included. |
The switch under them, Auto-approve authenticated users, lets comments from people signed in to your admin panel go straight up.
Comments that wait for you sit in Comments. That page shows how to approve them and take them down. You can also get an alert when one is waiting. See Notifications.
To turn comments off again, switch off Enable comments and click Save.
Contact support
Contact us if you need a new box on your entries. A second phone number on a service, or a start date on a job.
Tell us which kind of entry it is for, and what the box should hold. We add it, put it on your website, and check that nothing else moved.
Email support@lookoutridgeit.com. Getting support says what to put in the message.
